The math curriculum focuses on developing mathematical thinking, problem solving, and practicing computational skills. Math instruction involves a variety of experiences, including integrated projects, games, investigations with materials, class discussions, and recording and double checking work. Students explore concepts aided by the support of manipulatives (Unifix cubes, Dienes blocks, pattern blocks, etc.) and through the communication of their mathematical thinking as they recognize and share their own relevant and successful strategies for problem solving. Students discuss these different strategies and learn how to represent and explain their mathematical thinking verbally and on paper in ways that make sense to them. Nationally recognized and Common Core aligned curriculum, TERC Investigations, provides a foundation from which the integrated, hands-on, and authentic math learning experiences and daily practice grow.
