The Arts
Art is integrated into every aspect of the classroom experience. Learning how to represent ideas is fundamental to growth as a learner, and, through the arts, students learn to do this in many ways. Art development, as with child development, occurs in a measurable and recognizable progression. Each new developmental stage brings more complex representation and interpretation. Guiding students to feel confident in the classroom and successful as artists builds self-esteem and empowers them to take ownership of their learning experience. Art activities are planned to support developmental growth and allow students to develop new skills and strategies for representing and communicating their ideas and understandings. Art activities include fine arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, papier mâché, etc.), traditional arts (sewing, felting, weaving, clay, etc.), and performance arts (puppetry and theater).
